What we do

At SOFIWF, we use education-based strategies to tackle mental health issues. And our holistic approach ensures that SOFIWF educational programs are designed not just for those vulnerable to mental health challenges, but also for their loved ones and the community at large.

Through workshops, webinars, and support groups on life skills, cultural/ racial sensitive mental health awareness. We would provide the right skills, tools, techniques, and resources to help take effective action to address these issues and create a supportive environment essential for healing.

Promote wellness by providing mental health treatment funding to individuals in need, especially to Black and racialized individuals in London, Ontario and across Canada who are diagnosed with symptoms or conditions that require psychotherapy. This will be for those with low income and no health care benefits.

Educate the public and reduce the stigma and stereotypes around mental health by offering workshops and seminars on that topic.

Provide a counsellor-led peer support-groups for youth and adults in Southwestern Ontario with a specific emphasis on Black, Indigenous and People of Color or racialized, which will provide techniques in coping, self-advocacy, healing and awareness issues unique to this community.

Advocate for needs-based, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed mental health supports, services and educational accommodations and direct funding to families to support people with chronic mental health challenges

Racial trauma can be incredibly damaging to the mental health of people and communities who have been oppressed and marginalized by overt and systemic racism. We hope to provide resources that help the BIPOC community open conversations about these issues. Our Foundation plans to spend more time listening, learning, developing, and sharing on this topic, so individual and collective healing can begin to occur

We will partner with Mental Health Professionals who are culturally sensitive and refer individuals to them as need be.
